Government Liaison

Andrew Pape-Salmon

Andrew has been an active user of nature trails for nearly 50 years throughout the seven provinces and territories he has lived in; as a trail runner, hiker, cross-country skier, mountaineer, and mountain biker. In 2010, he organized the Vancouver Island Spine Trail Relay and covered 500kms with multiple modes from Cape Scott to Victoria. He served on the board of directors for the VI Trail, Strathcona Nordics, Alpine Club of Canada and Prairie Inn Harriers. He is thrilled to support the NTS as a Director for government relations and was the acting President in 2019. He is an advocate for developing a “Heart of the Hills” trail that will connect Camosun College Interurban and Goldstream Provincial Park, with connections to Frances King, Thetis, Mount Work and Gowlland Tod. He also has a vision for a continuous, non-motorized trail between the Johnston Street Bridge and Port Alberni via the West Coast Trail.
Andrew’s role: Providing liaison with all levels of government to increase the awareness of NTS among elected officials and staff, along with building partnerships to achieve our vision of a 200km+ continuous nature trail network in the region
